Dr. Arbitter is a native of Rabun County and attended Rabun County High school through the 10th grade and graduated from Rabun Gap Nacoochee School. He received a BS in Biology from UGA in 1991 and completed his DVM at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. Dr. Arbitter has served as the President of the Northeast Georgia Veterinary Medical Association and has been on the State of Georgia Peer Review Committee. His wife is Jennifer Cathey Arbitter and they have three sons: Mark, Allen, and Wyatt. His practice interests are in small animal surgery and reproduction. Personally he attends Mountain City United Methodist Church and enjoys mountain climbing as a hobby
Dr. Betsy Hartridge grew up in Columbia South Carolina and graduated from Hammond Academy in 1988 and then attended The University of South Carolina where she received her B.A. in anthropology in 1992. After college Betsy worked, traveled and enjoyed her numerous hobbies which include kayaking, mountain biking, hiking and of course her pets. Work experience ran the gamut between social worker, outdoor retail, fish processing and even a carnival worker at the Alaska state fair. After she and her husband married in '95 and moved to the smoky mountains Dr. Betsy decided to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian and attended Western Carolina University in Cullowhee NC where she received her BS in Biology. Dr. Betsy was accepted to The University Of Georgia where she received her DVM in 2006. Dr. Betsy and her husband Bobby, and children, Abigail and Henry live happily with their animals.
Dr. Amanda graduated from Franklin High School and then earned her BS in biology from Western Carolina University. She attended veterinary school at the University of Tennessee. Dr. Amanda has been with Rabun Animal Hospital since 1997 working as an assistant with Dr. Brad and then returning in 2007 as a veterinarian. She currently lives in Franklin, NC with her husband, Andy, her daughter, Lilly, her son, Zane, one spoiled bulldog named ZuZu, three cats, one bird, and several fish. Her interest lies in exotic animal medicine and small animal internal medicine.
Dr. Speed has been a valued employee and colleague at Rabun Animal Hospital since he graduated Rabun County High School in 2002 and through his bachelor degree in Animal and Dairy Science (2005) and DVM in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia (2010). He will bring with him experience from practicing at Thomasville Animal Hospital and Countryside Animal Hospital in Covington Georgia. His experience will enhance our diverse multiple doctor practice at Rabun Animal Hospital. While at the University of Georgia, Dr. Speed was the president of the Block and Bridle Club. In addition, he was the president of Omega Tau Sigma Veterinary professional fraternity. For 10 years in Rabun County, he was a volunteer firefighter at the Warwoman station. Dr. Speed says of his opportunity to work at Rabun Animal Hospital, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to come home to practice and raise my children Tori and Spencer with my wife Dr. Jaime Smoot Speed DVM in my hometown. Returning to the clinic where I started as a kennel assistant at 19, now as a doctor is a special feeling. I am looking forward to serving the community I love and was instrumental in making me the person I am today.
Dr. Jaime is originally from West Virginia. Her family raised Thoroughbred Race Horses which is what got her interested in Veterinary Medicine. She earned a Biology degree from James Madison University and worked at Johns Hopkins in a research lab until attending vet school. She graduated UGA CVM 2010 where she met Brad freshman year. Particularly interested in dermatology and internal medicine. Jaime and Brad have two kids Victoria and Spencer, three dogs, and three cats. Outside of work Jaime enjoys outdoor activities, particularly fishing and hiking, visiting family, and trips to the beach.
Roxanne is a Licensed Veterinary Technician who has enjoyed being a part of the Veterinary Profession for over 20 years. She lives with her husband Mark and they have three daughters, Chelsea, Jordan, and Cassidy. Roxanne also shares her home with her yellow lab Boone (her hiking buddy), and two horses. Roxanne likes spending time with her family and friends in the outdoors. She enjoys exercising and spending time in the woods hiking. Roxanne has loved her career as both a Technician and Hospital manager and considers it a privilege to help care for your pets
Joe has transitioned from being a technician to our maintenance man here at Rabun Animal Hospital. Joe is also an Air Force veteran who was in Operation Desert Storm with the Air Force Aeromed Program. After this Joe decided he wanted to leave Human medicine and work with animals. He attended AB Technical College from 2002-2004. Joe’s favorite part of working at Rabun Animal Hospital was working with the Animals, the clients, and Dr. Stephen Arbitter. He now works very hard to keep our office in working order.
Kathie is a Licensed Veterinary Technician who graduated from West-Oak High school in 2009. She then attended Tri-County Technical College, earning her degree in Veterinary Technology in 2012. She has been with Rabun Animal Hospital since 2011, first as an intern, and then as a valued staff member. Her favorite thing about RAH is emergency medicine and critical care. Kathie is the proud owner of 4 dogs Parker, Jake, Bernie, and Squishy. She also has two cats, Moe and Ellen, as well as two horses Junebug and Dunny.
Heather has 28 years of veterinary medicine experience 10 of those years as a registered veterinary technician. She is originally from Augusta, GA. Heather became a member of the Rabun Animal Hospital team in 2014. Her favorite part of working at Rabun Animal Hospital is being able to provide high-quality medicine and treatments for patients, while also making it a fun and caring environment. Heather has 5 animals at home; Two cats Jet and Sailor, and 3 dogs Bear, Moby, and Puck.
Celeste is a Registered Veterinary Technician at Rabun Animal Hospital. Celeste is certified in both NC and GA. She has been here since May of 2017. Celeste is originally from Waynesville, NC. She has a degree from AB Technical College in Veterinary Medical Technologies and, is currently enrolled at the University of Tennessee of Martin in Veterinary Medicine Technologies Management. Celeste has a number of animals including 2 dogs, 3 cats, 3 goats, a donkey and a mule. Her favorite part of Rabun Animal Hospital is the great Doctors and Staff that are always willing to teach and care for the community.
Amy has been a Veterinary Assistant at Rabun Animal Hospital since 2003. She achieved her Medical Assistance Degree in 2007. She is a proud mother of a 2-year-old daughter, Audrey Lynn. Amy is also the owner of two dachshunds Odette and, Malcolm and one cat named Meow-Meow. Her favorite part of Rabun Animal Hospital working in our laboratory and running medical tests.
Shannon has been a Veterinary Assistant here at Rabun Animal Hospital for over 10 years! She is a Rabun County native. Shannon has one cat named S.J. Shannon loves working with the pets and clients. She also enjoys being around her work family. In her free time, Shannon loves going to the beach, kayaking, and spending time with her son.
Stephanie has been a Veterinary assistant at Rabun Animal Hospital for 9 years but has worked for veterinary offices for over 20 years. She is from the Franklin, NC area. She has a degree in Animal Sciences. Stephanie’s favorite part of Rabun Animal Hospital is the opportunity to help Animals and help their owners care for them. Stephanie has 5 dogs; Tyson, Opossum, Brock, Lucy, and Rebel. She also has 5 cats; Lilly, Lyla, Saja, RC, Dinah.
Brenda has been a Veterinarian Assistant at Rabun Animal Hospital for over 11 years. She has a Bachelor's in psychology from the University of Montana. She also attended Georgia Southern for 2 years. Brenda owns 4 dogs; Buddy, Hunter, Cami, and Maggie. Brenda started a foundation called “Habitat for Hounds.” This foundation supplies dog houses to needy dog throughout Rabun County and beyond. The foundation has provided over 150 houses to dogs in need who have little to no shelter. Her favorite part of working at Rabun Animal Hospital is working with a great team and, spending time with the client and their animal companion.
Leah has been with Rabun Animal Hospital since 2012. She is a Veterinary Assistant. She graduated Rabun County High School in 2012 and attended North Georgia Technical College for Pharmacy Technology. Leah’s favorite part of working at Rabun Animal Hospital is working in the Surgical Field and her office manager Roxanne Zemmin. Leah has 3 dogs, Moose, Tucker and Gus as well as 3 cats P.Diddy, Buster, and Miranda.
Liz has been a Veterinarian assistant at Rabun Animal Hospital since 2015. She has worked in the Veterinary field for over 15 years and wouldn't dream of doing anything else. Liz is originally from FL and has some college experience. She has a 4 year old son named Walker who shares her love for animals. She also has two dogs Biggie Smalls and Squishy. Liz’s favorite part of Rabun Animal Hospital is the family environment and the involvement of emergency medicine and surgery.
Sam has been working Rabun Animal Hospital for many years. He is a Rabun County Native. Sam currently attends UNG in Dahlonega. In his free time Sam likes to play video games, watch anime, and attend renaissance fairs. Sam has one dog named Rip. His favorite part about working at Rabun Animal Hospital is keeping the hospital as clean as possible. He loves providing the cleanest environment for our furry friends.
Bernadette has been a valued member of the staff first as a head receptionist and now in a more administrative capacity. She has worked at Rabun Animal Hospital for over 15 years. You may receive a call from Bernadette to check on your pet, remind you of an appointment, or help you prepare for a surgery.
Joi graduated from Swain High School in 1971. She then went on to North Carolina University for 3 years where she majored in Biology. Joi has a diploma in Medical Assisting from Carroll Tech. Joi has 2 sons, Kenny and Josh and a wonderful new daughter in law Brittney. Joi also has 3 dogs; Buddy, Otis, and Pistol. Joi Has worked at Rabun Animal Hospital for over 15 years. Her favorite part of working at Rabun Animal Hospital is interacting with our clients and meeting their pets.
Sharnay has been a receptionist at Rabun Animal Hospital for 7 years. She is originally from FL and she has a Nursing Assistant diploma. Sharnay has 2 dogs Red Dog and Peppy. She also has 3 cats Bella Blu, Oscar Oliver, and Buddy. Her favorite part of Rabun Animal Hospital is seeing smiling faces and wagging tails.
Hannah is a receptionist and veterinary assistant at Rabun Animal Hospital. She has been here since 2016. Hannah has taken business classes at North Georgia Tech and completed an online veterinary assistant program. Hannah has 2 cats Shiloh and Birdie. She also has 3 poodles Zoey, Chablis, and Papaw. In her free time, Hannah likes to Kayak, Hike, and Nap. Her favorite part of Rabun Animal Hospital is getting to hold all the animals and being part of an amazing team.
For 3 years Jennifer has been a Kennel Assistant here at Rabun Animal Hospital. She is a Rabun County native. She graduated Rabun County High in 2011 and attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College for diverse agriculture. Jennifer has 3 dogs Butch, Thor, and Shorty. She also has 1 cat named Loki. Jennifer likes working for Rabun Animal Hospital because she likes to see all the animals that come through for boarding. In her free time, Jennifer likes to crochet and spend time outdoors with her husband.
Lynzee has been a Kennel Assistant here at Rabun Animal Hospital since 2016. She has lived in Rabun County almost all her life and graduated from Rabun County High school in 2018. Lynzee has two dogs, Rhea and Maylee, and a cat named Dobby. In her free time Lynzee likes to spend time outdoors. Her favorite part of working at Rabun Animal Hospital is building relationships with the clients and their pets.
Haley is a Kennel Assistant here at Rabun Animal Hospital. She is originally from Florida but has lived in Rabun County since she was 5 years old. Haley is currently a senior at Rabun County High School. She owns 2 dogs, Buddy and Ellie. Her favorite part about working at Rabun Animal Hospital is loving on all the animals. In her free time, Baby Haley enjoys hiking and swimming.
Breeyah has been a Kennel Assistant at Rabun Animal Hospital since June 2017.
She is currently a senior and is from Dillard, GA. Breeyah and her family house 12 dogs, 2 goats, and 1 rabbit. Breeyah loves being able to be around all the different animals and she enjoys the experience of working with different people and learning something new each day.
Elizabeth is a kennel assistant here at Rabun Animal Hospital, she joined our team in 2019. She is a sophomore at Rabun County High School . Elizabeth has two dogs, Buttercup and Charlie, along with Rosie, her three-legged cat! She also owns three fish and a turtle. Elizabeth's favorite part about working at Rabun is building bonds with the animals.
Christina joined our family here at Rabun Animal Hospital in 2018. She is originally from Florida and went to college at ABAC where she received a Bachelors in Diversified Agriculture. After graduating college she married her husband which is what brought her to Rabun County. Some of Christina's hobbies include riding horses, working on her families ranch, and managing her commercial cow herd. Christina shares her home with her dogs Sam and Hazel, her cats Roper and Tiger, and her horse 007. Her favorite things about working at Rabun are her awesome co-workers and emergency work.
